Teaching people today to change tomorrow
Founding Story
Hello friends,
Established in 2011, LearnToLive began as a personal response to the devastating gaps in healthcare that I had witnessed firsthand with my own family in Indonesia.
Through research and discussion around the cycle of poverty, with specific reflection on the disparity in access to essential resources, it was startlingly apparent that so many in this world are born on an uneven playing field. We have no say in the political and cultural environment we are born into. Religious belief, race and skin colour are out of our hands, and so often this leads to gross disadvantage and inequality when it comes to basic human rights.
The obvious question for our work became, “How can we create opportunities and improve conditions to even the playing field?” On first visiting Indonesia, it became clear that a focus on healthcare alone was simply not enough. After identifying inconsistent water quality and inadequate education as clear contributing factors to the disadvantages faced by many communities, LearnToLive quickly established 3 primary objectives: to provide quality healthcare, healthcare education and sustainable access to clean water.
Having seen thousands of patients since our inception, LearnToLive now leads an international network of partners, volunteers and community leaders across Indonesia, Laos, South Africa & Kenya. LearnToLive remains grounded in our simple, albeit, powerful mission: to alleviate suffering in remote areas of the world, while building global citizens and future leaders in the healthcare sector.
